The rescue 406 EPIRB is a third generation satellite distress beacon designed to operate in conjunction with the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite search and rescue system. This system locates beacons transmitting on the 406MHz frequency to within 3nautical miles. Once Search and Rescue (SAR) units are at the distress scene the beacon's 121.5MHz homing transmitter and its high intensity xenon strobe light aid final location even in poor visibility. To date the Cospas-Sarsat system has helped save over 11,000 lives.
The Rescue 406 is fully compatible with Cospas-Sarsat and Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) regulations and meets the latest requirements A. 810 (19) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
When shipped the beacon is programmed with a unique serial number which must be registered with the national authorities. Where national authorities allow, the beacon can be re-programmed with the vessel's satellite or radio call sign. This is done by the distributor using an infra-red light pen connected to a Windows based computer.
The Rescue 406 is supplied with a quick release bracket for cockpit mounting (category 2). It can be supplied in a fully enclosed housing for more exposed positions. The EPIRB can be self-tested while in the housing and the housing can be fitted with a Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) which makes the EPIRB float free (category 1) if the vessel sinks.
Once removed from its mounting bracket, activation is automatic by immersion in water or manual by a protected push button on the rear of the EPIRB. An additional self-test button runs on a short diagnostic check and indicates the EPIRB is ready for use.

The Precision 406 GPS EPIRB features an integral 12 channel parallel GPS receiver within a compact 406 EPIRB. The benefits of the Precision's integral GPS is that position information is updated every 20 minutes providing an accurate position even when the EPIRB has been activated and is drifting in the sea.

FastFind 406 PLB
The smallest and lightest Personal Location Beacon in the world The Fastfind standard 406MHz Personal Location Beacon has all the features of the Fastfind Plus but without GPS. The 406MHz frequency provides an alert signal to the rescue services within 90 minutes maximum, depending on satellite passes and gives a positional accuracy within 3nm. Once in the vicinity the 121.5MHz transmitter provides a signal for the rescue services to home-in on. This information is more than sufficient to enable rescue services to find a vessel or individual in distress particularly if equipped with flares and lifejacket light.

Search & Rescue Transponder (SART)
The McMurdo SART is a 9GHz
receiver/transmitter. On receiving a pulse from any standard 9 GHz
X-band radar, the SART immediately transmits a signal which clearly
indicates the survival craft on the radar screen by means of a series
of 12 in-line dots. Once activated, the SART will remain in standby
