State of the art display and control functions and advanced SimNet networking, makes the all new AP28 the perfect autopilot for larger power and sail boats.
The AP28 control unit features a large LCD display and operation via the brand new interface is intuitive to say the least. This simple display and control setup gives you access to a raft of features and performance options.
Installation & Integration
Two new autopilot computers provide substantially more drive current than previous generations and incorporate our new SimNet plug and play sensor technology.
New SimNet compass and rudder sensor, are easier than ever to install; because you no longer have to run dedicated cables back to the autopilot computer. Instead, the new SimNet sensors conveniently connect via the SimNet backbone.
The advanced nature of the SimNet network insures the compass and rudder data is automatically routed back to the AP28 autopilot, plus any other SimNet compatible instruments, such as IS20 Compass and Rudder displays.
SimNet also features Slim Line connectors for easy cable routing, so you'll be up and running in very little time.
Virtual Rudder Feedback
This unique feature, recently introduced to Simrad autopilots means that no rudder feedback unit is needed for outboards and stern drive boats. In terms of installation, you will save a huge amount of time and aggravation thanks to this sophisticated new feature.
Automatic Tuning
The AP28 include a number of self-calibrating features that automatically compensate for the unique handling characteristics of your boat and sea conditions, insuring optimum performance without the need for expert manual calibration.
Simrad engineering ensures that you can always go to sea in the confidence that your Autopilot is pin-point accurate and highly reliable. The AP28 boasts state of the art technology so you know you'll be safe, you know you'll hit your way points and you know that you'll arrive on time. But what about en-route? What can the AP28 do for you?
Contour Steering
This unique Simrad feature utilizes data from your fishfinder or depth instrument to maintain a set water depth, just as if you were manually steering your boat along depth contours on a paper chart. This leaves you free to concentrate on the big catch, enjoy the shoreline view or trim your sail.
Integrated Turn Patterns
When fishing or looking for a wreck, you might choose from a variety of automatic steering patterns that can help you in your search.
Advanced Wind Steering
The AWS feature provides unbeatable autopilot performance for any sailing vessel. AWS is ideal for single-handed sailing or racing. Utilizing wind and GPS data simultaneously, it is possible to hit long distance waypoints dead-on, without deviating from the original course line or build-up of significant cross track error.
Rate Of Turn Control
The AP28 is equipped with advanced control algorithms that enable smooth and precise turns regardless of sea conditions. This feature also improves tack and gybe performance on sailboats.
Data Pages
The AP28 include a number of data pages where you can view autopilot parameters such as compass heading, set course, rudder position, as well as information received from other SimNet compatible equipment such as GPS navigation data and IS20 wind, depth and speed data.
Multi-Station Operation
Expanded multi-station compatibility offers several control options including use of the AP24 control unit. Any future autopilot control units will also work thanks to the SimNet system.

Simrad AP12/AP14 Powerpilot
Simple, powerful and reliable
designs for steer-to-heading and steer-to-GPS piloting. The Simrad
AP12 and AP14 range of autopilots presents two of the best value packages
for power, reliability and performance you can buy. The AP12 range
comes with a low profile compact fixed surface-mounted control head
with simple no-nonsense key presses and LED indication while the AP14
range comes with a portable handheld control head with an LCD display
for heading and navigation information. Both pilots use the same superbly
designed course computer for the hydraulic versions (AP12H & AP14H)
and built-in microprocessor technology directly into the sophisticated
Rotary drive for the cable steered versions (AP12R & AP14R). Fluxgate
compass technology is used to maintain the course accuracy that is
necessary on today's high speed powerboats. These pilots are ideal
for single or twin engine outboard, inboard or sterndrive powered boats
- up to around 30 feet in length for push-pull cable or hydraulically
steered boats.
Simple to Operate The design of the AP12/AP14 control keypad is rated as one
of the best there is. It has a single auto/standby key to engage/disengage the
pilot. Right and left buttons give 1° - 10° course adjustments. If you
suddenly need to take urgent avoiding action use the dodge facility or simply
press the Standby/Auto key and take over hand steering.
Steer a Heading With the boat on the desired heading, a single press of the Auto/Standby
key engages the autopilot to hold that course. It couldn't be simpler. Adjustments
can be made with the right and left keys. Linked to your GPS, a single press
of the Nav key tells the AP12 or AP14 to take its commands from your GPS, and
follow a path to the next waypoint.
Dependable Performance Both these autopilots are built to Simrad's stringent
requirements of tough, weatherproof reliability and powerful, accurate performance.
Automatic Fine-Tuning Different sea states and boat speeds require different
degrees of helm to hold a course. The AP12 and AP14 both have an electronic "intelligence" that
automatically adjusts their steering action accordingly. Additional Control Units
With either the AP12 or AP14 you can fit up to two additional control units,
fixed or handheld, to give full autopilot control wherever you choose around
your boat.
For Cable Steering - AP12R and AP14R For cable steered boats up to 30 ft. the
wheel-drive versions of the AP12 and AP14 are very quick and easy to install.
The drive unit simply fits in place of the steering unit behind the helm console.
Compatible with the majority of Teleflex®/Morse® steering systems, it's
extremely neat, and much more secure and better protected from the weather than
an externally-mounted wheel pilot.
For Hydraulic Steering - AP12H and AP14H The hydraulic drive versions of the
AP12 and AP14 are designed for inboard hydraulic steering systems, ram capacity
5.4 - 15.25 Cu.in. (90cc-150cc), as well as for boats with hydraulically steered
outboards and sterndrives.
Two Year Warranty As proof of Simrad's confidence in the quality and performance
of its autopilots, the AP12 and AP14 are offered with a two year comprehensive
warranty, supported throughout the world by the international network of Simrad
sales and service centers. |

Choosing the right Cockpit Pilot -
The correctly sized Tiller or WheelPilot for your boat, properly installed, will give many years of reliable service. Remember to consider the overall length and maximum displacement fully laden to ensure that the pilot will always be working within its capabilities. The recommendations assume typical coastal sailing conditions and in circumstances where extended voyages or more extreme weather conditions are expected the choice of a higher specification pilot is recommended including the full range of Simrad below deck pilots.
Remote control for TillerPilots and WheelPilots -
The remote control, the HR22 enables the TP22, TP32 and the WP32 to perform all of their most sophisticated functions from any position on board, for example, under the spray hood in rough weather.
Tiller Pilot installation -
The versatile TillerPilot installation accessories allow the pilot to be installed on almost any sailing yacht.Work out the installation requirements from the installation dimensions, remembering that the pilot must operate in a horizontal position. Then look at the Installation accessories table on the specification page to order the right part when you buy the pilot.
